The only way to spot treat Drywood termites is to find the kickout holes where the "frass" or pellets is falling from. You can then either inject these holes with D-Force or try saturing the wood with Timbor. Timbor can be sprayed or dusted onto the wood, and also injected into the kickout holes. In most cases, a small 1/8" hole may need to be drilled into the kickout hole to widen it to allow for the injection of the D-Force or the Timbor. In either case, permeating the galleries of the termites within the wood is critical. If you don't get the materials into the galleries, you won't kill the termites.

The only other option is tent fumigation. In my opinion, no other treatment works. The Electrogun, Orange Oil, etc are totally overated and not worth the… See full answer »

Yes, since the products are applied into walls, and termite infested areas, it is not required that people or pets leave the structure. I would however, recommend to keep them away from treated areas such as rooms, and also keep them away from open or exposed pesticide containers.

We got drywood termites located in the structure (studs) behind the house siding. I head that I need to drill many holes until I find a channel. Is duster used to find the channel or i need to buy something else? See more »

RonDawson  •
The duster is used to apply the Timbor powder or dust into the areas where the termite galleries are located. In order to apply the dust into the galleries, you have to find them and drill into them. I recommend using a 1/8 drill bit and driling into the kickout holes from which the termites frass or wood pellets falls. Using a stud finder, find the studs behind the sheetrock and drill the 1/8 holes into the kickout holes and also every 12 inches up and down the entire length of the stud. When you feel the drill bit give way into the gallery, you apply the invader insecticide first, then follow that up by applying the Timbor dust.

You can also dust in between studs, inside of eaves, hollow voids and other areas where drywood termites can be found… See full answer »

One wall only. Not sure of entrance point. See more »

RonDawson  •
There is no way to know if the infestation is isolated. Opening the wall may not reveal much, as drywood termites will often reside inside of studs, eaves and outside walls. These areas may be impossible to reach. I would recommend to treat whatever is visible and see if they return. Hope this helps.

Does applying Tim Bie damage the finish wood? See more »
avatar
RonDawson  •
Timbor is a good wood pretreatment. After the wood is stained or finished, it will not penetrate. So the answer is on finished wood, Timbor is not the answer. Depending on where you live, Termidor Foam may be the answer. Simply inject it into the termite kickout holes and see if it works. Control may take 4-8 weeks.

The only other option is to remove and replace the wood. If the wood is totally isolated as you mention, this should work. If there are any other wood members touching this board, then they also need treatment. Here is our page on Drywood Termite control - http://www.epestsupply.com/drywood_termites.php

Spot treating drywood termites can be accomplished by directly treating the wood in which the nest is located. This can be accomplished by using a product like DOT which is sprayed on the surface of the wood and absorbed killing the termites, or by drilling holes into the infested wood and performing a direct injection using either DOT or an aerosol which kills the termites on contact.
