Tim-bor Professional Insecticide and Fungicide Dust

Tim-bor Professional Insecticide and Fungicide Tim-bor is a fast and efficient way to treat a structure for drywood termites, wood boring beetles, carpenter ants and decay fungi. It can be used as a wood preservative, fungicide and insecticide on its own or in conjunction with other treatments as a supplement. Because of its application flexibility as a dust or liquid, it can be applied as a dust, spray, foam or mist onto wood and cellulose building materials or inside wall voids, cracks and crevices.

Compare to: Nibor D, Bora Care

The active ingredient in Tim-bor Professional Insecticide and Fungicide Dust is a natural borate mineral salt with a low mammalian toxicity and has no known resistance. This active ingredient is known as Disodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate (DOT), a natural borate mineral salt and micronutrient. It is manufactured for use in the form of a water-soluble borate powder. Once it's applied in a liquid form by foaming, misting or spraying onto wood or other cellulosic materials, the borate active ingredient creates a protective envelope and remains for years of protection. Often Tim-bor Professional is dusted into places like wall voids where pests like to hide as an additional protection. When the dust gets on the insects, they clean themselves and consume the DOT during the cleaning process.

DOT is a natural form of elemental boron, which is essential for the healthy growth of plants and believed important in human calcium metabolism. Because animals and humans simply take what they need from their diet and rapidly excrete any excess via the kidneys, DOT has a low acute toxicity. As a result, Tim-bor Professional is about half as toxic as sodium chloride or table salt (in a laboratory setting), but very effective against insects and fungi that do not have the same excretion mechanisms.

Tim-bor Professional Insecticide and Fungicide Dust Features:
* Kills and controls drywood termites, beetles, carpenter ants and decay fungi
* Wood preservative and insecticide
* Highly effective and economical
* Mix with water or apply dry as a dust
* For indoors or on exterior
* No known insect resistance
* Lasts indefinitely, does not degrade over time
* Use as part of an IPM or Green program

Tim-bor Professional Insecticide and Fungicide Uses:
Apply directly to unstained, unpainted wood or dry dust or foam into wall voids, attics and other concealed areas. Applications may be made to wood structures including decks, fences, steps, sheds, barns and other outbuildings. Such structures must be protected from excess rain. On wood with drier than normal moisture content, apply by brush or spray two applications of a 10% solution to wood surfaces. On wood with normal moisture content, apply by brush or spray one application of a 15% solution to wood surfaces. Application may also be made by drilling and then injecting the solution under pressure into sound wood or into the insect galleries of infested wood. Tim-bor Professional may be applied as a foam to wood surfaces or injected into wall voids or insect galleries.

Tim-bor Professional Insecticide and Fungicide Mixing / Application:
10% solution, mix 1 lb of Tim-bor in 1 gallon of water - 2 applications required
15% solution, mix 1.5 lbs of Tim-bor in 1 gallon of water - 1 application required
General use - mix 1.5 lb bag in 1 gallon of water. This mix will treat 200 square feet of wood to a depth of 1/4"
Foam applications, mix 1.5 lb bag with water and 2 oz of suitable foaming agent such as Pro Foam. Apply as directed into walls, void and cavities

To apply as a dry dust, fill duster with dry Tim-bor powder and dust into cracks, crevices, walls, voids, attics, etc.
To apply as a wet mist, mix 1.5 lb bag in 1 gallon of water and apply with Hurricane ULV Mister Fogger

A client near San Marcos is concerned about termites and is considering spraying his entire wood frame with Timbor, a liquid mineral spray that is designed to kill termites. He is concerned that the slight surface residue left after the spray dries might keep the spray foam from sticking. Do you have any experience with a similar situation? Recommendation?

Kind regards,

Bob Smith. bob@biotexfoam.com 512 945-3086

Hi Bob. Timbor is a brand name for DOT or disodium octoborate tetrahydrate. It is basically a dry powdered form of a mineral (boron) that is mined from the earth in California.

It's possible that a dry coating of Timbor could hinder any foam application. I normally don't recommend Timbor for any wood that is going to be painted, sealed, etc, because of this.

My opinion is that Timbor is not the best product to use for Termite treatments in most situations anyway, unless cost and minimal application are factors… See full answer »

Powder post beetles do not normally infest pine. They infest hardwoods such as Ash, Mahogany, Oak, etc. Are you certain they are powder post beetles or are you just doing a preventive treatment?

I found drywood termite droppings in one of my window sills. I called in an extermator and the only sign of termites was that one window in my bedroom. Would I need to drill larger holes in the window and then apply the poison or can I apply it to the existing pin holes that were created by the termites? I live in a 1923 house and I don't want to cause more damage to the wood frame. My house was thoroghly inspected but the only activity was in one window. No swarming, no wings, no sign of the culprit, just the droppings that look like coffee grinds in that one window. See more »

You can try using a small syringe and injecting the holes. Basically these holes lead to the colony, so if you are successful in injecting enough chemical in the right place, you can gain control. Its worth a try. Termidor foam is good for this type of treatment too.

The PowderPost Beetles have moved into all floors, walls and ceilings of my 100-year-old barn. I've sprayed everything once. How long should I wait before doing a second spraying? See more »

The rule of thumb on Timbor is 2 applications. The second application whenever the first application has completely dried. Keep in mind that Timbor will only soak about 1/2 inch into wood. Bora Care will penetrate about 2 inches. You may need to use Bora Care on some of the thicker wood, beams, etc. Also, Bora Care only needs 1 application.
